.

According to a new study done by Sandvine, Netflix now accounts for the majority if Internet traffic in the US, consuming in 22.2% off all traffic with its streaming service. Next up is BitTorrent, with 21.6%, while HTTP (general Internet browsing) comes in at third with 16.8%. Finally, YouTube is fourth with 8% of all Internet traffic in the US.

We already knew that Netflix was a huge traffic hog, but now it’s official that it’s the biggest traffic consumer in the United States, no surprise since its 20+ million subscribers all have access to free, Instant streaming of hundreds of movies. There’s no indication that Netflix’ traffic consumption will decrease in the future, as the service keeps adding movies and new subscribers, despite Hollywood’s best efforts to curb the service.
