George Harrison fans will be pleased to hear that the remastered versions of his Dark Horse catalog are coming to the U.S. market. Included in the release will be the 2 Disc "Live in Japan" album which will be available as a Single Inventory, Hybrid Surround Sound SACD. As a Single Inventory release, the SACD will serve as both the SACD and CD edition of the album - no separate Stereo CD remaster will be issued.
The Harrison remastered series from Dark Horse Records distributor EMI was originally set for release in Europe and Japan in March. U.S. record stores have recently been notified that the same series will be available on the Capitol Records label in the U.S. with an in-store date of February 24th.
Balance of the Harrison Remastered Discs
In addition to the Live in Japan Surround SACD, there will also be Stereo CD reissues of the albums Thirty Three & 1/3, George Harrison, Somewhere In England, Gone Troppo and Cloud Nine. Also available will be a boxed set for collectors which will include the 5 Stereo CDs, the 2 Disc Super Audio CD of the Live album and a DVD Video entitled "The Dark Horse Years".
U.S. Stores Taking Preorders
In addition to the web sites mentioned in our first report, pre-orders for the Harrison Remastered Series are being taken in the U.S. by Amazon.Com, CD Universe.Com and Red Trumpet.Com, among others.
As is often the case, the price for the Live in Tokyo SACD varies widely. Both Amazon and CD Universe show it for $18.98 (perhaps unaware that this release is a 2 disc set) while Red Trumpet has the same item available for pre-order at $26.99. Given the variation in pricing, I'd advise Harrison fans to shop around a bit before ordering.
