Wii HD replacement to include Blu-ray?

.

DigitalBattle reports that Nintendo is gearing up for a replacement for its famous Wii console, and this time, the Wii will pack powerful internal hardware capable of rivaling Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3. What’s more interesting, is that the Wii HD (which we’ll call it for now, it could just as well be Wii 2), will feature a Blu-ray drive, something only Sony’s PS3 console has and something the Xbox 360 lacks.

Since Nintendo will be pitting the new console against the powerful Xbox 360 and PS3, a larger storage option is of course a big plus for Nintendo, even though a Blu-ray drive will surely cost a lot more than a standard DVD drive. On the other hand, Blu-ray holds up to 50 GB of data, compared to less than 10 GB on DVDs. The new Nintendo console is expected to be unveiled at E3 2011, which is held in the beginning of June.
