Samsung HT-AS720ST Home Theater System Review-A Good If Expensive Start

Samsung has been responsible for a lot of prime hardware over the years, so it likely won’t surprise anyone when I say that the Samsung HT-AS720ST is going to be a pretty nice setup. It’s going to come with a lot of things we like to see, but won’t be without some problems.

The Samsung HT-AS720ST is a six hundred fifty watt, 5.1 channel home theater system that includes four satellite speakers, one center channel speaker, a subwoofer and an A/V receiver. You’ll also get a variety of decoders (including Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital Surround EX, and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1), an HDMI output, two HDMI inputs, four composite inputs, two composite outputs, a coaxial input, and a headphone jack.

Plenty there to like–it’s not every day that we get a receiver in a home theater system–but plenty to dislike too–this doesn’t come with a disc player of any kind. It’s a strange sort of mix. The sound quality, though, is pretty nice, so you’ll be able to get quality sound for your components. The problem, however, is that you’ll need all the components. This is strictly limited to sound.

So it does kind of hurt that you’ll be shelling out fully five hundred forty bucks for one of these, unless you’re willing to go used.

But the Samsung HT-AS720ST is a decent sound package, even if you’ll need the rest of the necessary hardware to complete your home theater setup than normal if you get your hands on it.
