We’re going in for a look at LED televisions this week, the big, impressive new entries in the home theater pantheon. And for the most part, we’re going to find some good stuff, some clearly better than others. Our first stop is with the Sony Bravia KDL55HX800, a big, impressive model that should really put a spark in your home movie watching.

The Sony Bravia KDL55HX800 is a fifty five inch 1080p LED television that operates at 240 HZ and is 3D ready once you get all the necessary extra components. You’ll also get internet connectivity (an extra dongle provides wireless access) that will get you access to a wide variety of content sources, the Bravia Engine 3 image processor, two ten watt speakers with Dolby Digital decoder, Deep Color technology, Live Color Technology, four HDMI ports, two component inputs, two composite inputs, one ethernet jack, an RF port, a USB port, a PC input, three analog audio inputs and an optical digital audio output.

You get in front of a fifty five inch LED that could handle 3D and it’s hard not to say this thing has an amazing picture. It’s not as good as some, really, but with LED, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that it will look at the very least good. The sound isn’t the best here either, especially with just two ten watt speakers and only Dolby Digital to back them up. The controls are friendly enough, there are plenty of options, and I love a television that plays just as well with older gear as new.

Price will be an issue here, as you can find this in a few different places at $2598, an oddly specific price, but still. It’s a hefty price tag, but you should be fairly satisfied with the final outcome.

The Sony Bravia KDL55HX800 is a surprisingly nice television for the money, but be prepared to put out a hefty sum if you want this as part of your home theater system.
