Sony is ready to take Blu-ray to the next level with their newly-developed 3D player. However, if you’re an owner of their regular Blu-ray player, fear not. The company is also offering a 3D firmware upgrade for the old unit. The new player is called the BDP-S770, it has integrated 802.11n and will be available in July at a cost of $300.

Furthermore, Sony’s other Blu-ray players, the BDP-S470 and BDP-S570 are getting the 3D firmware upgrade for free online so they can keep up with the upcoming 3D Blu-ray generation. The old players will also receive DLNA compatibility too.

The BDP-S770 player comes with full HD 1080p single-disc capability for 3D Blu-ray and covers regular Blu-ray, DVD, CD and SA-CD as well. Other features of this new player include BRAVIA® Monolithic Design matching, BRAVIA® Internet Video, internal wireless Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Protected Setup, 1GB Memory and Dolby® TrueHD. It also comes with Entertainment Database Browser with Gracenote™ technology, BD Remote app for iPhone and iPod Touch, Precision Cinema HD Upscaling and playback for photos, music and video through USB and DLNA.

But Sony is offering the $800 BDV-HZ970W package in 5.1 channel surround sound to complete your 3D Blu-ray experience if you’re interested. The BD Remote app will also become available to the Android in the near future.
