Universal Music Adds 5 Classical Super Audio CDs to Release List

Universal Music has added 5 Surround Sound Super Audio CDs to its U.S. release list for the month of May. The Super Audio CDs due out on May 10th include two new recordings: pianist Alfred Brendel’s performance of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas K281, K282 and K576 and Transformations – an album by guitarists Kaori Muraji and Dominic Miller performing the songs of well known popular music composers such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Harold Arlen, among others.

  • Kaori Muraji & Dominic Miller – Transformations (Decca Classics)
  • Alfred Brendel – Mozart: Piano Sonatas K281, K282 and K576 (Philips Classics)

Next Round of Mercury Living Presence Remastered SACDs
Also coming in May will be the next albums in the Mercury Living Presence Remastered SACD series. Universal Music is showing the first 3 of these SACDs on their U.S. Release List as follows:

  • Antal Dorati, London Symphony Orchestra – Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsodies No. 1-6 & Enesco: Roumanian Rhapsody No. 1 (Mercury Living Presence)
  • Frederick Fennell, Eastman Wind Ensemble – Screamers: Circus Marches by Goldman & Others (Mercury Living Presence)
  • Byron Janis, Kyril Kondrashin, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra – Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 3 & Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 1 (Mercury Living Presence)

Two More Mercury Living Presence Remastered SACDs?
In addition to the 3 Mercury Living Presence Remastered SACDs noted above, two more have been announced for release in Europe at the same date. I assume that these two will be appearing on the U.S. SACD Release List as well as soon as their U.S. catalog numbers have been assigned. These SACDs will be:

  • Janos Starker, Antal Dorati, London Symphony Orchestra – Dvorak: Cello Concerto in B Minor, Bruch: Kol Nidrei & Tchaikovsky: Variations on a Rococo Theme (Mercury Living Presence)
  • Osipov State Russian Folk Orchestra – Balalaika Favorites (Mercury Living Presence)
