Sonys new Blu-ray XL may not work on old Blu-ray players

Sony has recently unveiled that Blu-ray XL, or BDXL, which has a capacity of up to 128GB (100GB on rewritable XL discs).

That’s good news, right? Well, here is the bad news. Apparently, these four readable layers per disc means that many current Blu-ray players can’t read these BDXL discs. Yes, you might need new hardware (not software and not firmware) to play these BDXLs, and that includes the Playstation 3.

This could definitely change the Blu-ray market as we know it. I think we’ll just wait and see what happens.
