Sony should be relaunching the PlayStation Network this week

Well, we have reported on how security concerns have brought the Playstation network temporarily down, and I believe that I said that it would be up in a week, which was on the 1st. Whoops.

According to my most recent source, Sony announced yesterday that their “restoration” will begin, but in stages. It will start first in the Americas, Europe, Austrailia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Oddly enough, Japan and other Asian countries will come later. I say oddly because isn’t Sony based in Japan?

As we have reported before, Sony PS3 network users will need to reset their passwords. Then there is that whole “Welcome Back” program that allows the user to get 30 days of PlayStation Plus for free, and existing PlayStation Plus members will get 30 days of additional service for free as well.

If you want to see a video message from Kazuo Hirai, executive deputy president of Sony, talk about it directly, you can see it here.
