Sony Introduces SACD ‘Home Theater In A Box’

Sony will introduce the first multi-channel SACD home-theater-in-a-box system this coming June, with the arrival of the company’s DAV-C770 and DAV-C990 Dream Systems™.

The DAV-C990 system will retail at $1,000 and comprises: four slim-line tower loudspeakers (front L/R and rear L/R), a centre channel speaker, subwoofer and integrated five-disc DVD changer, receiver and 600watt digital power amplifier.

Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II decoders are both provided while supported disc formats include DVD-Video (with progressive scan), multi-channel SACD, MP3, CD-R and CD-RW.

Also available in June is the $700 DAV-C770. It ships with five small satellite loudspeakers and a less powerful (550watt) amplifier, but the remaining feature-set – including multi-channel Super Audio CD compatibility – is identical to that of its more expensive sibling.

Tim Baxter, senior vice president of Home Entertainment Products Division for Sony Electronics said: “We recognize the increased desire for in-home entertainment solutions. Our newest DVD Dream systems provide an all-in-one solution and give consumers ease of use, coupled with the best home theater technologies available in a great looking set-up. True DVD lovers realize the audio element of the DVD experience is just as critical as the visual. The DAV-C770 DVD Dream system delivers dynamic sounds and subtle nuances with its powerful amplifier, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding.
