This holiday weekend Super Audio CD fans saw perhaps the lowest price yet on an SACD player – a Sony 5-Disc SACD unit for under $100. Good Guys, a well known audio and video chain based in California said they have made a “Special Purchase” of Sony’s DVP-NC685V which debuted at a list price of $199.99.
The chain is now offering it through the end of November for $99.94 in their retail stores after a mail-in rebate is applied. The announcement appeared in their Thanksgiving Weekend Sales flyer.
A Look At the Sony DVP-NC865V Player
The DVP-NC865V is a 5-Disc player that handles Surround Sound and Stereo Super Audio CD discs as well as CD Audio and DVD Video discs, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 Audio, DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. Other features of the player include 480p DVD Video playback using Sony’s “Precision Cinema Progressive Technology”, a 12 Bit Video DAC with 108Mhz Processing and “NSV” and Dynamic Tilt Compensation.
I’m not sure if we’ll see even lower prices on Super Audio CD and DVD-A players as the holiday shopping season moves forward. But it does show that the bargains are out there.
