SigmaTel Demonstrate Six-Channel 192kHz 24-bit Multimedia CODEC

SigmaTel have moved the possibility of PC DVD-Audio and SACD playback one step closer with a 192kHz 24-bit multi-channel demonstration of their C-Major™ STAC9460 decoder solution at the Spring Intel Developer Forum meeting, held between February 25th and 28th at the Moscone Center, San Francisco.

Part of the C-Major CODEC line-up, the STAC9460 is a six-channel, 24-bit full-duplex audio CODEC that incorporates SigmaTel’s proprietary Delta/Sigma technology for consumer applications and boasts a S/N ratio in excess of 105dB.

As SigmaTel’s integrated audio software technologies are already certified for use with most operating systems (including Microsoft® Windows and Linux®), the Austin, Texas-based company hopes multimedia and PC-based digital audio will continue to keep pace with the specialist, hi-fi separates market.

With new standards such as DVD-Audio and SACD setting a precedent for the home entertainment experience, we can look forward to the moment when consumers enjoy the same benefits on their PCs,” said Alan Hansford, vice president of marketing at SigmaTel.
