Sharp reveals new 85 inch 8K LCD

Sharp has revealed a new LDC TV that not only makes 1080p look childish, but even dwarfs 4K. The new display, called Super Hi-Vision LCD, has a resolution of a whopping 7,680 x 4,320 – that’s 33 megapixel of resolution on a screen. 8K is 16 times the resolution of full HD 1080P, and twice that of 4K, which is becoming a cinema and movie theater standard.

According to Sharp, they’re working on broadcasting in 8K resolution in 2020 (yep, 9 years from now). The new TV will be on demonstration at the NHK’s Science & Technology Research Laboratories in Tokyo from 26th to 29th May.
