Philips 42PFL5704D/F7 Television Review-Decent if Overpriced

We’ve still got a lot of LCD televisions out there we haven’t tackled yet–I know; I can scarcely believe it either!–but that’s the case.  And so, today, we go back to the LCD market with the Philips 42PFL5704D/F7, a decent, if not spectacular, LCD television.

The Philips 42PFL5704D/F7 is a forty two inch 1080p LCD television with four HDMI ports, a USB port, one S-video input, one audio input, one CVBS input, one coaxial digital audio output, one headphone jack, a 3D comb filter, Pixel Plus 3 HD for improved image detail, two thirty watt speakers with Incredible Surround, Dolby Digital and SAP, progressive scanning, auto volume leveler and EasyLink, which lets you control all your home theater gear with one remote.

And this sounds like a pretty good television, right?  The picture looks pretty nice, and the sound is surprisingly high-grade, especially given that it’s carrying two thirty watt speakers.  And as a Philips owner myself I can attest to their long-term value.  But there’s one big sticking point here–it’s all about the price.  Best Buy wants eight hundred bucks for this, and frankly, considering the sheer lack of inputs and options, that’s not exactly a bargain.

Still, there is plenty of quality here, and those using it should not be disappointed.  Thus, the Philips 42PFL5704D/F7 is a decent, if overpriced and underpowered system that will provide some value, assuming you have the right components to take advantage of it.
