Live at the Pawnshop was recorded on March 22, 1976 at the Pawnshop. It features Jazz Singer Eva Taylor backed by the Maggies Blue Five in a live performance of 10 jazz songs. For this Super Audio CD edition, the original session master tapes were mastered into an ambient 4.1 surround mix by Thomas Eberger and Opus 3 label owner Jan Eric Persson using a custom mixer and analog tape recorder, a Genex 8500 DSD Recorder and EMM Labs Meitner DSD Converters. The Hybrid SACD was made by Sonopress on their Hybrid Super Audio CD line in Germany.

Opus 3 says “We think that Magic is the word which comes to mind in connection with this recording. It was certainly a magic night at the Pawnshop in March, 1976 when a young lady of 81 completely captured and entranced the audience with her stage presence and vibrant personality. Her communication with the musicians and audience combined to elevate her artistry beyond the aural level to include that indefinable ingredient…. atmosphere. This atmosphere was retrieved from our vaults from 31 years ago and like a good wine has aged well as lovers of jazz from the twenties will appreciate.

Eva Taylor is a direct link with the great era of jazz when she was singing with the Clarence Williams Blue Five and also with Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet who were coming to their peak as influential jazz geniuses in the mid twenties. The band which perfectly complements her artistry is Maggie’s Blue Five and includes Tomas Цrnberg on clarinet & sopranosaxophone and Bent Persson, trumpet from Tomas Цrnberg’s Blue Five and later on, The Swedish Jazz Kings.”
