New Energy Star Rating looks to Curb Environmental Impact from TVs

Are you obsessed with ‘going green’? Do you want to get that huge HDTV but are afraid it’ll increase your impact on the environment? Well, rest assured that a new Energy Star rating will be going in effect soon that will allow manufactuers to apply for a 4.0 rating.

This new rating will keep 50-inch TVs above or on par with consuming just 153 watts. TVs produced after May 1st must meet these requirements if they want to get the 4.0 rating.

Hell, if you’re feeling even a bit more green you can wait until 2012 when the 5.0 rating is released, dropping TV energy consumption an additioanl 40%.
