Today, Netflix announced that they’re now providing 5.1-channel surround sound for its Internet streaming component known as Dolby Digital Plus. Now you’ll be able to enjoy 5.1-channel surround surround when you watch movies. Netflix says that they aim to have a format that’s compatible with as many devices as possible.
First on their list will be the Sony PS3 console, which will receive Dolby surround sound and officially be released on October 18, the same day that disc-free support on the PS3 will also launch. According to Ubergizmo, the streaming giant could likely make Mac and Windows computers and the X-Box 360 compatible with Dolby 5.1 sometime in the future as well.
