Movie Gallery Planning Store Closings?

It was probably inevitable, but apparently, Movie Gallery is considering its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in just over two years.  This means, at this rate, Movie Gallery bankruptcy filings will become annual starting in 2011.

Okay, so I’m being a bit glib.  What that REALLY means is that if you’re a big Movie Gallery fan, you’re probably just plain old hosed.  There’s word that as many as eleven hundred “underperforming stores might wind up getting shuttered as a result of this, leaving us with one less place to get access to our favorite movies.

Oh, who am I kidding?  Most of us already have Netflix or similar, so chances are that all this means is one less place to get video game rentals, or, best case, a fast way to get huge discounts on used movies.  That IS one thing we’re quick to forget–the loss of game rentals.  GameFly just isn’t that reliable or useful a service yet, so until that’s fixed we ARE left to the video stores for games to try.

But as far as movies go, there will still be plenty of options.
