LG 50PZ550 Plasma Television Review-Value And Utility Together

This week it’s back to the plasmas for us, folks, because there are a lot of them out there, and not everyone’s in a mood to go LED at this stage of the game. But thanks to the LED advancement, we’re seeing some nice prices on plasma, and the LG 50PZ550 will do a nice job of bringing value and utility together.

The LG 50PZ550 is a fifty inch 1080p plasma television that offers 3D capability when you’ve got all the components in place, a 600 Hz refresh rate for smooth image playback, NetCast access for streaming capability through CinemaNow and Vudu as well as Pandora and various Yahoo widgets for things like news and weather, Picture Wizard II to help calibrate your television, SIMPLINK connectivity to let you run all your HDMI equipment via the TV remote, two ten watt speakers with Clear Voice II, three AV modes for various configurations, four HDMI ports, two USB ports, and two component inputs.

You can see where this has a lot of utility to it, like I said above–there are plenty of features here to go around, and while you can’t see it until you take a look at one of these, the picture quality is really impressive, though the audio isn’t the best. But for ten watt television speakers it’s really not bad at all. I like that it handles streaming, but would have preferred Netflix and YouTube, or maybe a more generalized web browser for things like Hulu and Crackle than the relatively limited offerings of Vudu and CinemaNow.

But still, it’s a very nice overall package, and things only get better when I tell you it’s almost, but not quite, a sub thousand dollar system. The folks at Amazon want $1061.99 for one of these, and really, they should have gone the extra mile and marked it down to a sub-thousand, but you’ll get a good deal here regardless.

The LG 50PZ550 manages to do what many before it could not, and pack value and utility into one clean and impressive looking package. This is well worth a look if you’re in the market for a new television.
