Here’s a Blu-ray player from Hitachi that can do more than just Blu-ray, but it has an integrated 32GB solid-state drive.

The company calls it the “Hy-Drive”, and it could improve a computer’s performance overall. I can’t help but wonder why one couldn’t use this to create some sort of Blu-ray/DVR combo.

That doesn’t seem to be the plan for Hitachi, as they are planning to release a lot of new hard drives.
