Hitachi came up with CinemaStar 5K320 hard drive for installation in set top boxes and DVRs. The 320GB capacity hard drive is based on CoolSpin technology which ensures quiet operation and low power consumption. An uninterrupted audio and video streaming is achievable, thanks to SmoothStream technology and Smart Command Transport.
“Hitachi has been making dramatic improvements in power savings generation to generation and our CoolSpin product line in particular, sets new standards for power-efficient audio/visual hard drives,” said Larry Swezey, director, Consumer and Commercial HDD Marketing and Strategy, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies.
The drive features 1.2 hr MTBF and consumes 3.1W idle power, thus saving on the energy front. Data loss in the drive is prevented with the help of Optional Bulk Data Encryption. Data stability, integrity and reliability are a result of perpendicular magnetic recording technology.
The expanded temperature range and silent-seek acoustics features make it stand out in the industry. The price range of CinemaStar 5K320 has not been disclosed yet but it will be available for your use in September 2008.
