.FCC has recently announced that they will be launching a new set top box that will serve the function of both HDTV and DVR functionality. By next year millions of people will get an access to this Motorola Box. Set Top Box can pause, rewind, and fast forward both regular TV and HDTV signals. Recording in Comcast is restricted to an analog MPEG encoder. As it is known that new regulations intend to open competition in the marketplace for cable set-top boxes, Comcast plans to appeal the decision, as of July 1, 2007, cable operators will be forbidden from providing customers with set-top boxes which lock customers to their service via integrated security features. The Recording capacity specs of Cable Set Top Box are: Analog: 25 hrs, Digital TV: 30-60 hrs and HDTV: 8-10 hrs.
