Fantasy Announces 8 Super Audio CD Titles for Release in November [HFR]

Berkeley based Fantasy Records has announced that they will be releasing 8 more titles from their catalog of classic jazz masters in Super Audio CD. The new SACD titles are slated to be available in stores on November 9th. The release follows Fantasy’s release of 5 Stereo SACDs on April 27th and 10 more in August. Like their previous releases, the next group of 8 discs will be Hybrid Stereo SACDs. All will be single disc SACDs and will sell for a list price of $19.98.

Expanding the Catalog to 42 Titles
The new group of releases will up the number of Fantasy Stereo SACDs on the market from 35 today to 43. This is in addition to the Fantasy Jazz, Soul and Pop titles released earlier by Analogue Recordings and Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs which licensed titles from the Fantasy catalog for SACD release before Fantasy got into the market themselves.

The upcoming Hybrid Stereo SACDs have been added to the Fantasy SACD Web Site which has more details on each of the planned releases, including the musicians on each SACD. The November SACD release will be as follows:

  • Benny Carter – Jazz Giant (Contemporary CSA-7555-6)
  • Art Pepper – Gettin’ Together! (Contemporary CSA-7573-6)
  • Stan Getz & Cal Tjader – Sextet (Fantasy FSA-3266-6)
  • Gerry Mulligan & Thelonious Monk – Mulligan Meets Monk (Riverside RISA-1106-6)
  • Bobby Timmons – This Here Is (Riverside RISA-1164-6)
  • Nat Adderly – Work Song (Riverside RISA-1167-6)
  • Milt Jackson & Wes Montgomery – Bags Meets Wes! (Riverside RISA-9407-6)
  • Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers – Caravan (Riverside RISA-9438-6)

    A Web Site Mystery
Speaking of the Fantasy SACD web site, I noted that one of their earlier Super Audio CD releases Creedence Clearwater Revival In Concert (Fantasy FSA-3245-6) is not listed on the site. Which makes me wonder if it has gone out of print. I’ll check on that. In the meantime, you may want to look for it at the music stores, just in case it has indeed headed out of print.

Web Pre Orders for the Upcoming SACDs
The upcoming Fantasy SACDs have already showed up for preorder on some web sites that carry Super Audio CDs. This includes not only web sites based in the U.S. market such as Music Direct and Amazon.Com but also European web sites such as German based jpc.de.
