It’s pretty clear, folks, that Disney’s willing to give up its aspirations of offering its own streaming venue in favor of handing the ball off to Netflix, but not without a huge cost to Netflix.  Dig the word:

Disney wants viewers watching Starz movies online through companies such as Netflix to pay more for what the studio considers a premium channel.

So there you have it.  Now, the interesting part about this news was that Disney originally was making noises, like I said, about launching its own kind of Hulu-Disney that streamed its own content.  Naturally, Disney content is big where ever it goes, so anyone who wants it will have to pay through the nose for it.  From the look of things, Disney might well be content just to be a content provider.

But no deal is finalized yet, so just how badly Disney’s going to stick it to Starz / Netflix remains to be seen.
