Avatar in 3D available on HBO Video on Demand

Until now, the only way to get Avatar in 3D on Blu-ray was to buy a Panasonic 3D TV, or get a copy on eBay, which go for as high as $250 bucks. Now, Avatar in 3D is available on HBOs Video on Demand service, where the quality of course isn’t as good as beautiful 1080p Blu-ray, but it comes quite close: the 3D Avatar VOD version runs at 1080i.

We don’t have any details on what it costs to rent the video on HBO, but if you have the service, it wouldn’t be hard to figure out.

Hopefully, soon Panasonic won’t be the only ones who can sell a 3D copy of Avatar, which they bundle with their TVs. A lot of folks have been waiting to get the 3D version on Blu-ray since, well, forever. It appears that Panasonic has a license for the 3D Blu-ray version running three years, so we can hope to get regular Blu-ray copies in 2013.
