2L Presents Pianist Ola Gjeilos Debut Album in Surround Sound Super Audio CD [HFR]

Composer and Pianist Ola Gjeilo is featured in his debt album on the latest Super Audio CD release from 2L. 2L is a record company based in Norway that specializes in high quality Classical recordings. 2L has released almost 20 Super Audio CDs in the last year and has enjoyed wide acclaim for the quality of their SACD releases. One of these titles – Immortal Nystedt by Ensemble 96 (2L SACD 44) (see linked story below). The label remains active on the SACD scene with 17 more Super Audio CD releases already announced and planned for release in 2008 and 2009.

Like most of the new releases from 2L, Stone Rose by Ola Gjelio is a Single Inventory Hybrid Multichannel Super Audio CD. It features Surround Sound Super Audio CD, Stereo Super Audio CD and CD Audio versions of the music on the album. The Hybrid SACD disc is playable on SACD, SACD compatible DVD Video and CD Audio disc players. The Hybrid SACD disc serves as both the SACD and CD edition of the album.

Ola Gjeilo is a composer and pianist who was born in Norway and now lives in New York City after spending some time in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. Over the years, he has performed with his ensemble – the Ola Gjeilo Group – as well as a soloist and his compositions have been heard in over 20 countries. Stone Rose is his debut album for the 2L label. It features 15 original compositions by Gjeilo that were influenced by his times in New York and Los Angeles.

2L describes the album as being “Reflective and tuneful piano music written and performed by Ola Gjeilo. This is Jazz, Classical and Popular Music in a unique and warmly passionate style.”. Gjeilo sees the music on the album as being “contemplative piano music” and he credits Jazz Pianist Keith Jarrett as one of his big influences.

Stone Rose was recorded at Sofienberg Church in Oslo, Norway on August 5 – 8, 2007. The album producer, balance engineer, editor and SACD mastering engineer was Morten Lindberg. The recording engineer was Hans Peter L’Orange. The Hybrid SACD disc was made by Sony DADC at their plant in Austria.
