What Was Redboxs Top Rental Of 2009?

Now that’s a question that got my ears all perked up–for Redbox, this massive service, what was its biggest renter?

It rented four and a half million times over the course of the year, which actually represents almost one percent, by itself, of Redbox’s total rentals.  I don’t have to tell you that for one title to represent that kind of market share is an amazing feat.

But enough preamble, folks!  I’ve teased you long enough!  The top renter at Redbox for 2009 was none other than Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

Four and a half million rentals of Paul Blart: Mall Cop helped propel to Redbox to renting nearly half a billion titles this year.  I don’t know about you, but that both amazes and amuses me to no end.  On the one hand, Redbox rented out half a billion titles.  Assuming a buck each, that’s five hundred million in gross revenue.  On the other hand, five million bucks of that is Paul Blart.

So congratulations, Redbox, and hopefully next year will be as good!
