VLC 1.1 gets released, includes hardware acceleration

While there are some popular mainstream media players for traditional computing platforms such as Microsoft’s Windows Media Player and Apple’s Quicktime, to play some file formats that popular content is distributed as of late you’re either going to have the correct codecs or just download an open source alternative like VLC that already has compatibility with virtually all of these formats.

The makes of the popular open source media player have just announced that VLC version 1.1 is now available to download. Highly sought after improvements featured in the update include hardware acceleration on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux in addition to 40% more speed.
