Universal Releases SACD by Ludacris and Updates SACD List

Universal Music broadened the variety of their SACD catalog this week with a new Surround Sound SACD by rapper Ludacris titled “Chicken ‘N’ Beer”. They also announced an upcoming Surround Sound SACD by Soul artist Musiq and a revised date for Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road SACD Deluxe and Special Editions.

The new Ludcris SACD is a Hybrid Layer SACD that features Surround Sound SACD, Stereo SACD and CD Audio tracks. It is playable on SACD, CD and SACD compatible DVD Video players. Here’s more information on the new Ludacris SACD.

(Def Jam B0001324-36)

Chicken ‘n’ Beer is the latest hit album by Def Jam’s star rap artist Ludacris. The CD version of the album was this week’s #1 album in the U.S. according to Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart. Chicken ‘n’ Beer features the song “Stand Up” as well as performances by a series of guest rap stars including Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Flip, 8 Ball & MJG and Carl Thomas.

The Stereo CD of Chicken ‘n’ Beer has been issued in two versions – with and without a parental warning label concerning the album’s lyrics. The music on the Surrround Sound SACD edition is taken from the original album which includes the parental warning label. This provides us with a new first in the world of high resolution audio – a Surround Sound SACD with a warning label. As I noted earlier, Universal Music is broadening their Surround Sound SACD catalog here!

SACD Release List Adds Musiq SACD and Delays Elton John SACDs
The latest edition of the Universal Music SACD upcoming release list shows a new upcoming Surround Sound SACD from Def Jam Soul artist Musiq. It also indicates that the two SACD editions of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, John Hiatt’s “Bring The Family” and Elvis Costello’s “North” SACD have been bumped back two weeks to November 25th. Finally it omits the Surround Sound SACD by Puddle of Mudd that was shown earlier in the month. We’ll have to keep an eye on that one to see if it returns to the list in the near future. Here are the latest Pop, Rock & Jazz SACD titles on the release list with projected release dates.
