The Abegg Trio Perform Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff

TACET have announced that their next DVD-Audio release will be another from the highly successful Abegg Trio who will perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Trio in G Minor and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A Minor.

The members of the Abegg Trio are Ulrich Beetz (violin) Birgit Erichson (violoncello) and Gerrit Zitterbart (piano).

Andreas Spreer enthuses: “Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio is really something! How can the listener to be kept agog for a full forty-six minutes, then feel the return of the initial theme at the end of the last movement for what it is: the end of a grandiose arch spanning the whole cosmos? Tempo proportions, phrasing and many other things are important here.

In December, Andreas, who is the owner of the TACET label, was awarded the honorary ‘Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik’ (Prize of German Record Critics) for his work advancing the recording art. This theme has also extended to the latest Abegg Trio release. Andreas explains that the trio “…went to the trouble of referring to the original manuscript and obtained scientific help to check the musical proportions of the Tchaikovsky piece and to perform them faithfully, just as composer intended. Those who know the work are in for a surprise…

Spreer describes the Abegg Trio, whose recordings are available exclusively from TACET, as “the voice of the manuscript”, a reference to their desire to recite great composers’ works in their original form.

The DVD-Audio version is TACET catalogue no. D127 (available soon) and a CD version is also available, TACET no. CD127. The Abegg Trio — Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff Piano Trios
