Universal Music Releases 5 SACDs and Plans 13 More

Universal Music has released 5 SACD discs for the month of November. The SACDs include releases from Diana Krall, Bon Jovi, Ryan Adams, Al Jarreau and Steve Earle. All 5 are now available at retail stores and web sites that carry SACD discs.

Universal has also provided information on 13 new pop and rock albums that they plan to release as SACDs early next year. Artists in this group of SACD releases include The Allman Brothers, Peter Frampton, Peter Gabriel, The Police and Steely Dan. The release list was made available through a mailing to record retailers carrying the Universal Music SACDs. read more…

New Sony SACDs from Mary Mary, Tony Bennett and Friends

Sony Music has released two new SACDs by Mary Mary and Tony Bennett & Friends. The new SACDs are «Incredible» by Mary Mary and «Playin’ With My Friends: Bennett Sings The Blues» by Tony Bennett & Friends which features an all-star line up of singers including Diana Krall, Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Bonnie Raitt, k.d. lang, Kay Starr, Billy Joel and Natalie Cole.

Both SACDs are Single Layer Multichannel/Stereo SACD releases. Each features a Multichannel SACD and a Stereo SACD track and is playable only on SACD equipment. Here’s further information about these two new SACDs. read more…

Universal Plans SACDs by The Who and Marvin Gaye

Just days after the release of their first 10 SACDs in the US market, Universal Music has announced 3 additional SACD titles for release in early 2003. The new SACDs are «The Who Sings My Generation» by The Who (MCA), «Let’s Get It On» by Marvin Gaye (Motown) and Leonard Bernstein Conducts West Side Story with Kiri Te Kanawa, Josй Carreras, Tatiana Troyanos, Kurt Ollman and Marilyn Horne (DGG Classics). read more…

Onkyo and Integra SACD/DVD-A Players

In January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, several audio companies announced plans to introduce new products for the Christmas selling season that would include DVD Video, Multichannel SACD and DVD-Audio playback all in the same box. Several of these «universal player» are expected to be announced at the big CEDIA 2002 show later this week in Minneapolis.

Jumping the CEDIA gun a bit, Onkyo and its Integra unit have each announced that they will be shipping a universal Multichannel SACD/DVD Video/DVD Audio player in October. Here’s a bit more information on each player. read more…
