Surround 2005 Announces New Dates and Location

Surround 2005: The Conference and Expo – which has pioneered production techniques and market acceptance of 5.1 music entertainment for DVD, broadcast, and games – has announced that it will be held this year on December 15–16, 2005 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The 2005 Surround Music Awards (SMA) will also be held during the event.

Now celebrating its seventh year, Surround 2005 draws leading figures in music and sound production, engineering and label distribution to discuss new advancements in creative techniques and marketing opportunities for surround music. The event has spawned the acclaimed Surround Music Awards and the Surround Broadcast Summit.

The fourth annual Surround Music Awards, which honors the best surround sound music releases and the people who create them, will be held December 15, the opening night of Surround 2005. Past SMA events have featured performances from surround artists including Graham Nash and David Crosby, Dweezil Zappa, and Herbie Hancock.

Surround 2005’s return to an early December date was what the industry wanted, and we gave it to them,” says Pro Sound News publisher and Surround 2005 producer Margaret Sekelsky. “Surround music has made great progress with consumers over the last year, and has been embraced by more artists than ever before. The need for this event is greater than ever, and it will provide the industry with the timely information it needs.
