Study: Less Than 10% of Consumers Looking to Purchase 3DTV in Next Year

Just about every time I turn on the television and see an advertisement for a new movie, it’s almost always followed by a “shot in 3D” cut scene. This phenomenon is, of course, due to the fact that 3D movies, displays and technology in general are creating a great deal of buzz. However, with all of this buzz, we’ve got to dig down a bit to actually see the facts which raise the question: is 3D display technology ready to make it into the homes of consumers everywhere?

According to a recent report by Nielsen, no, probably not. This report says that less than 10$ of consumers across the globe are looking to make the pick up a 3DTV within the next 12 months. What’s more peculiar is the fact that this report says that after experiencing the technology, consumers are less likely to want one of these televisions.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering many 3DTVs still hold a premium price tag.
