Sony reveals first pro 3D camcorder, the PMW-TD300

.

Sony is showing off a lot of new cameras at the currently undergoing NAB in Las Vegas, and one of the surprises is a new 3D camcorder, which Sony calls the first professional 3D camcorder that supports a shoulder mount. The camera features two, 1/2 inch Exmor 3CMOS sensors and two fixed lenses, which can together shoot 3D at 1080p.

It’s sure to please a lot of documentary filmmakers looking to make their docs in 3D, but we’re less optimistic about everyday footage in 3D, and the camera doesn’t seem to have enough features to be suited for a dramatic feature film. Either way, tThe camera can also shoot regular, 2D video by simply using one lens and one sensor. The PMW-TD300 3D camera is expected for release this Fall, although price has yet to be revealed.
