Continuing their plans for more Super Audio CDs, Universal Music Group announced plans for 5 more Surround Sound SACD releases in 2004. The newly announced SACDs include titles by Sheryl Crow, Marvin Gaye and Vince Gill as well as classical SACDs by Valery Gergiev & the Kirov Opera and a Classical Music Sampler. Also announced are a series of release date changes to Universal Music’s upcoming SACD release list. Here are the highlights from Universal Music’s SACD release announcements.

The three pop and country music titles by Sheryl Crow, Marvin Gaye and Vince Gill originally made their debut on the DTS 5.1 Music CD format and the appeared last September on DVD-A disc. The release date for their debut on Surround Sound Super Audio CD will be set shortly.

SACD Release Date Changes
Moving to release dates, there have been several changes here. The 6 Oscar Peterson «Exclusively for My Friends» SACDs have been moved back one week from April 20th to April 27th. On June 15th, Universal now plans to release the two Eric Clapton Surround Sound SACDs and the Derek & the Dominoes Surround Sound SACD that have been listed as future releases to date. Also worth noting, the Joe Henderson «Lush Life» SACD which has been on and off the release list over the last few months is once again off at this time.

Turning to the two Allman Brothers Band Surround Sound SACDs, there is no update on their formal release date yet. However, we’ve been told by Universal Music that they hope to get them out this summer, possibly as early as July. We’ll keep an eye out for more information on that front in the weeks ahead.
