Rolling Stones Sympathy for The Devil in 5.1 SACD Surround [HFR]

ABKCO Records, Universal Music International and the Rolling Stones have announced that the upcoming Sympathy for the Devil Remix Maxi-single will be a single inventory, Hybrid Layer Multichannel SACD release. The new Sympathy for the Devil Remix maxi-single will be available in stores in the U.S. Market on September 16th. Suggested list price for the SACD maxi single will be $7.98.

The new disc follows similar SACD Remastered projects from ABKCO Records by the Stones and more recently Sam Cooke. In the U.K. the disc will appear on Universal Music’s Mercury label.

The maxi-single will feature the new radio remixes of the Stones classic “Sympathy for the Devil” done by The Neptunes and Fat Boy Slim. These remixes debuted on America On Line (AOL keyword: First Listen) this weekend and will be played on radio stations starting today. The new Remix maxi-single will also include “a previously unheard remix by Dean Gillard and Matt Ward, dubbed “The Full Phatt Remix” as well as the original version of the song which was released in 1968 as a cut on the Beggars Banquet album.

7 Tracks on the Disc
The Sympathy for the Devil Remix Maxi Single will feature two versions of each of the three remixes – a “radio remix” and a “full remix” plus the original version of the song. According to ABKCO officials, all 7 of the tracks on the disc will appear in three different audio formats – 5.1 SACD Surround Sound, SACD Stereo and CD Stereo – to take advantage of the capabilities of the Hybrid Layer Multichannel SACD disc format. (As a Hybrid Multichannel SACD, the disc will be playable on SACD, CD and SACD compatible DVD Video players.)

The disc will feature this track layout:
1. The Neptunes (Radio Remix)
2. The Neptunes (Full Length Remix)
3. Fatboy Slim (Radio Remix)
4. Fatboy Slim (Full Length Remix)
5. Full Phatt (Radio Remix)
6. Full Phatt (Full Length Remix)
7. Original Recording

More Details on the Sympathy for the Devil Remix Maxi Single
The Remix Maxi Single will feature new cover art that is described as “a unique animated lenticular version of the band’s iconic lips and tongue logo, outlined in fire” taken from original artwork by Mark Logue and Marcus Lyall at Punk Films. As a tie-in to the successful Rolling Stones Remastered SACD Series discs, the Sympathy for the Devil Remix disc will include a $3 off coupon that consumers can use towards the purchase of one of the earlier Remastered SACD Series discs.

ABKCO tells us that the Sympathy for the Devil Remix Maxi Single was conceived of by the Stones and that Mick Jagger and Keith Richard personally approved using The Neptunes, Fat Boy Slim, Dean Gillard and Matt Ward for this remix assignment.

Overseeing the remix project was ABKCO’s Jody Klein who was the Remixing Coordinator and “Jelly Bean” Benitez who was the Remixing Supervisor. The Analog to DSD Digital transfers were done by Teri Landi and the disc mastering for the SACD was handled by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering except for one track that was mastered by Herb Powers.
