Philips HTS 3371D Home Theater System Review-More Than You Pay For

This week we’re going to look at home theater systems–you’ve seen a whole lot of televisions here, and that may well be the most important part of a home theater, but the rest of it is right here, offering media and sound all in one.  And today we’ve got the Philips HTS 3371D.

The Philips HTS 3371D offers a DVD player that supports several varieties of disc media, including DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, CD-R/RW and MP3, among others, as well as five speakers and a passive subwoofer with a total of a thousand watts of power.  Plus, it also offers an iPod dock, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II sound decoders, one component video output, one HDMI output, a variety of equalizer settings depending on need at the time, and EasyLink capability.

I’ve always liked Philips gear; having owned a Philips television bought as an open box item for five years without incident gives me a deep respect for their hardware.  And as such, I definitely liked this one.  Oh, sure, I’ve heard better sound quality, and I’ve seen more versatile DVD players.  But I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen this kind of hardware package in one place for a whopping hundred and thirty five bucks.  Yes, that’s what this is going for over at Best Buy.

You can do better than this, no mistake, but you’ll pay for it.  The Philips HTS 3371D will offer some incredible value, and you will certainly get a more than serviceable package for the relatively tiny amount you’re going to pay for it.  Get what you pay for?  Oh, that’s just the starting point here–you’ll get plenty more than that.
