Dark Side of the Moon SACD Release Date Delay |

The release date of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ has been moved back, officials at EMI and Capitol Records confirmed earlier today. Rather than being released on March 3rd as originally planned, the ‘Dark Side of the Moon - 30th Anniversary Edition’ SACD will be issued on March 24th in Europe and on March 25th in the United States.
I've also learned that a special vinyl edition of the 30th Anniversary Edition will also be released on the same date. Both editions will feature the newly remastered version of the album prepared by Pink Floyd producer/engineeer James Guthrie and mastering engineer Doug Sax, who went back to the original 16 track master tapes of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ to prepare the new editions at Guthrie's Das Boot studios in South Lake Tahoe.
New Artwork to be Featured
There has also been word that the art designer of the original ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ album, Storm Thorgerson, has contributed some new artwork for the 30th Anniversary Edition. An example of this new artwork can be found on the Acoustic Sounds web site.
Accordng to Capitol Records in the U.S., part of Thorgerson's assignment is to create a new cover art image for the 30th Anniversary edition of the album.
It was rumored that the image on the Acoustic Sounds web site, and reproduced below with the permission of Acoustic Sounds, would be the cover art for the new SACD and Vinyl versions of the album.
In checking with Capitol Records in the U.S., I was told that the 30th Anniversary edition of Dark Side of the Moon will indeed have new cover art work by Storm Thorgerson. However, the artwork shown on the Acoustic Sounds web site "is not the final approved cover art" according to Capitol Records.
Preorders Being Taken
As we wait for the release of the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ 30th Anniversary Edition, several web stores are now taking preorders for the new version of this Pink Floyd classic. In addition to Acoustic Sounds, you can also preorder the SACD version at Elusive Disc and Music Direct.
