Groove Note to Release Concord Records Albums on SACD |
 |
Groove Note Records has announced that they have reached an agreement with Concord Records of Beverly Hills, CA to reissue selected titles from the label's catalogue on the Super Audio CD (SACD) high resolution digital format. Several titles will also be reissued on 180 gram audiophile vinyl LP.
Concord Records is one of the best known independent jazz labels in the US with an extensive catalogue of nearly 1,000 titles in print. The list of artists includes Stan Getz, Ray Brown, Gene Harris, Rosemary Clooney, Charlie Byrd, Laurindo Almeida, Dave Brubeck, Mel Torme and many others. The label is known for its high quality recorded sound and engineering.
Groove Note Says DSD and SACD Have Arrived
According to Groove Note President Ying Tan, "DSD has established itself as the pre-eminent digital high resolution format for the future, with superb levels of resolution, detail and dynamics that is uncanny in its fidelity to the very highest standards of analogue.
It is for these reasons amongst others that many top audiophile labels have indicated a preference for the format, most especially for its performance in traditional 2-channel stereo playback, and are now preparing to release existing and new catalogue titles on SACD for the audiophile market."
Concord SACDs Will Be Hybrid Discs & Some Multichannel Releases
According to Groove Note, all of the Concord Records SACD titles will be released as hybrid SACDs. Hybrid SACDs contain a standard CD layer in addition to a high resolution Direct Stream Digital (DSD) layer. These discs are playable on existing CD players or new SACD players. To enjoy the benefits of the high resolution DSD layer, playback must be via an SACD player.
Groove Note indicated that most of the SACD titles will be released as Hybrid Stereo SACDs but selected titles (including some live recordings) will be released as Hybrid Multichannel/Stereo SACD discs.
