Fantasy Records has announced plans to issue 5 new Super Audio CDs on April 27th. Included in this group are albums by Big Star, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, Albert King and the Amadeus Soundtrack.
The announcement of the five new titles comes on the heels of last week’s announcement of 10 new SACDs planned for release in August. (Apparently there was so much excitement at Fantasy about these 10 titles that they momentarily forgot to mention the five coming out in April!)
Hybrid Stereo SACDs
As with their previous releases, 4 of the new Super Audio CDs will be single disc Hybrid Stereo releases selling for a suggested list price of $19.98. The 5th release, the Amadeus Soundtrack, will be a 2-disc Hybrid Stereo SACD selling for $39.98.
Big Star SACD Arrives in April
Also worth noting here is the upcoming Super Audio CD by Memphis based Big Star. This album was originally announced as an SACD release on the Mobile Fidelity label. It was later cancelled by Mobile Fidelity shortly after Fantasy decided to begin releasing material from their catalog on Super Audio CD themselves (vs. licensing such releases to other labels).
When it arrives, the Big Star SACD from Fantasy will actually feature two of their albums – #1 Record and Radio City – on one Hybrid Stereo SACD disc. This SACD will carry a list price of $19.98.
