Audionet Ship VIP ‘High-End’ DVD-Audio Player

The Audionet VIP ‘high-end’ DVD-Audio player finally began shipping this week. The VIP (which stands for Versatile Integrated Player) is equipped with a proprietary digital output using the IEEE-1394 Firewire interface which enables a direct connection between the player and suitably equipped HighBit-Data hardware from the Audionet range, an upgraded MAP for example. read more…

Meridian 598 DVD-Audio Player Now Available

Meridian have today announced their new 598 DVD-Audio player is now available; the 598 introduces DVD-Audio to Meridian’s 500 Series of source component and processors.

As those familiar with the DVD-Audio format will be aware, Meridian developed the loss-less coding system that is mandatory for DVD-Audio and DVD-AR, thereby enabling multi-channel 96kHz 24-bit and two-channel 192kHz 24-bit audio playback. read more…

TACET Beethoven String Quartet Update [HFR]

In July, TACET began recording the complete series of Beethoven string quartets, performed by the Auryn Quartet. The project is scheduled to take approximately two years to complete, at the end of which the collection will contain approximately five to seven DVD-Audio discs. read more…

TACET to Release Mozart Piano Quartets KV 478 and 493 [HFR]

TACET have announced that their next DVD-Audio release will be a recording of Mozart’s piano quartets KV 478 and 493.

The disc, released initially as a two-channel CD (catalogue number 116), features TACET regulars the Gaede Trio, together with soloist Markus Schirmer, an Austrian musician TACET describes as “sensitive, subtle but also technically brilliant”. read more…

Pioneer Announce DV-47Ai, Firewire Universal DVD-Audio/SACD Player

Pioneer is to introduce a Firewire-equipped ‘universal’ DVD-Audio/SACD player into the US market this coming fall. The DV-47Ai will carry a suggested retail price of $1,200.

The machine will be the first ‘high-resolution’ consumer DVD-Audio and SACD players to include an industry standard IEEE-1394 (also known as Firewire or iLink) digital interface for both audio and video, and will enable the player to be connected to Pioneer’s upcoming flagship receiver, the VSX-49TXi, which boasts partner dual Firewire inputs and of course, integral (digital domain) bass management and time alignment. read more…

Warner Bros. CD and DVD-Audio Parity Pricing, Day/Date Release Plans

Commencing June 17th, Warner Bros. will introduce parity pricing between CD and DVD-Audio releases together with a day/date release policy across the two formats.

The ramifications and importance of this news cannot be underestimated; new titles will be released on Compact Disc and DVD-Audio simultaneously and both versions will be identically priced. read more…
