Netflix Underwhelmed With Its Own Streaming Offerings

To which I say, guys, you’re just getting started.

The word out from Netflix is that they are not happy with their streaming offerings.  They’re not happy that 1080p is still a pipe dream.  They’re not happy with the fact that 5.1 channel surround sound is still in the works.  The word straight from corporate:

“PS3 and Xbox users have 1 in 17 titles available in HD, and it’s streamed in 720… it’s not in 1080, and it’s not in 5.1 surround sound or anything.  So, the HD experience at Netflix Instant Watching isn’t that overwhelming. It’s a little bit underwhelming. So the Wii folks aren’t going to miss that much.”

Not missing that much.  Well, like I said, they’re working on it.  To be fair, 1080p is going to require faster internet for pretty much everybody.  And the same is true of surround.  Faster internet, bigger bandwidth…maybe you guys want to have a word with Google about a partnership.  After all, they’re working on some pretty fat pipes these days.
