Netflix Announces That Its Now Primarily A Streaming Company

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has announced that the company will now focus mainly on its streaming services while still providing DVD-by-mail. Interestingly enough, the streaming giant already has a streaming-only plan in effect for customers in Canada, which is still in the stages of limited testing but it could become more widely available by the fourth quarter of this year.

According to Engadget, if Netflix does go into “pure streaming”, then DVDs may end up becoming a premium service charge the same way that Blu-ray discs are right now. Furthermore, Netflix aims to expand its streaming-only service beyond North America by late 2011, increasing media content and enhancing the UI on other devices.
