LG: mass production of large OLED panels to begin in 2013

LG has announced that it plans to start production of large OLED panels in 2013, with a $226 million expansion of its current OLED plant in China. LG plans to introduce a 31 inch OLED TV on the market later this year, and next year, a 55 inch OLED prototype. Furthermore, they expect the price of producing an OLED panel to decrease 3 fold by 2013.

LG showcased several large OLED panels at CES this year, including a 2.9mm thick panel which they claimed is the world’s thinnest.
