Isaac Hayes Shaft Soundtrack Coming to SACD

Fantasy Records has announced that it is adding Isaac Hayes’ classic soundtrack album from the movie “Shaft” to their list of upcoming SACDs. The Shaft Soundtrack will appear on Fantasy as a Hybrid Layer Stereo SACD on January 14th. This will be in addition to the nine Hybrid Stereo SACD releases that were previously announced by the label (see our earlier story linked below).

As with their earlier SACD releases, the Shaft Soundtrack will be remastered for SACD from the album’s original master tapes. Also of note, while the original Shaft Soundtrack album was a 2 disc album, the upcoming Hybrid Stereo SACD will be a 1 disc SACD release that will carry Fantasy’s standard SACD list price of $17.99.

January 2004 Fantasy SACD Line Up

Strong Sales and More Fantasy SACDs Ahead
Audiophile disc outlet Acoustic Sounds is reporting that the Fantasy Records SACDs are enjoying good sales. A check of the Top 50 chart on their web site shows that all 10 of the initial group of Fantasy SACDs are on their Top Sales Chart with 4 of the top 10 slots filled by these discs. Also worth noting is that 33 of the 50 slots on the chart are held by SACD discs. Obviously the audiophile world has discovered high resolution audio.

Checking in with Fantasy Records, I was told that they are also pleased with the sales of their initial series of 10 SACDs. So much so that in addition to the next group of 10 SACDs slated for release on January 14th, a review of the Fantasy, Milestone, Prestige & Stax catalog is now underway to determine additional SACD releases for later in 2004. It sounds like Jazz and Soul fans will have more good listening ahead.
