If you’ve been paying attention to the mobile world at all you probably know that jailbreaking Apple’s devices is a popular trend. This term refers to reverse engineering Apple’s iOS on devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to allow consumers access to a deeper level of customizability. This includes, but is not limited to, changing a device’s themes, installing unauthorized apps and utilizing the device on carriers that wouldn’t normally offer a device.

This term applies over here in the home theater world as well as Apple also has a set-top box on the market appropriately dubbed the Apple TV. Just like Apple’s other products the Apple TV ships quite locked down but after the jailbreak treatment opens its arms wide for all levels of customizability. Unfortunately with each release of iOS comes a break for the jailbreak sending the hacking community back to the drawing boards.
