Future Disc News: Multiple Grammy Award Nominations

Future Disc productions have scored six Grammy® Award nominations, including one for Don Grusin’s ‘The Hang’ in the category of Best Contemporary Jazz Album, a title that is available as a DVD-Audio disc.

Additional projects mastered at Future Disc Systems that have been honored with 2004 Grammy nominations are: ‘The Concert for George’, (Best Longform Music Video); Dave Koz’s ‘Saxophonic’, (Best Pop Instrumental), Kevin Bond/Newbirth Total Praise Choir ‘Spirit & Truth’ (Best Gospel Choir); and Bishop T.D. Jakes ‘He-Motions’, (Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album). All were mastered by Steve Hall. (Earlier this year the acclaimed Concert for George also garnered a Surround Sound Award.)

Also nominated for a Grammy, in the category of Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album, was Intocable’s ‘Intimamente’, which was mastered by Future Disc’s Gabriel Wallach.

It’s all in a day’s work at Future Disc, where musical diversity is the norm. Current projects for Steve Hall, for example, have included Platinum country artist Deana Carter’s latest Vanguard release ‘Story of My Life’, a CD for rowdy Pittsburgh-based indie rockers Modey Lemon, and the soundtrack for ‘Lackawanna Blues’, the upcoming television movie starring Jimmy Smits and featuring cuts from Mos Def, Big Joe Turner, T Bone Walker, the Blind Boys of Alabama and Macy Gray.

In Future Disc’s Studio 1, engineer Kris Solem has been busy as well. Internationally renowned producer/re-mixer Dave Aude mastered tracks with Solem for hot new artist Jennifer Green; Los Angeles buzz band Goldspot, produced by Jeff Peters, mastered their debut release for Ruffworld Records. Solem also completed mastering on a new CD, produced by Jeff Peters and “Little” Steven Van Zandt, for fuzz guitar master Davie Allen and his band the Arrows.

Dave Conrad, Future Disc’s DVD authoring specialist, completed several versions of the DVD ‘Here Come The ABCs’ by Grammy-winning alt rock legends They Might Be Giants. The project is set for release on Disney Records new imprint Disney Sound, and contains over 60 minutes of new music with animated sequences, puppets and live performance. Conrad has also been busy constructing a DVD reel for hot film advertising team The Music Junkies (‘The Matrix’, ‘Austin Powers’, ‘L.A. Confidential’). Conrad was also the authoring guru for the technically challenging surround DVD of Don Grusin’s ‘The Hang’.
