Epson and Philips join to Release Reference Design for Personal Projector

..Well, what happens when two big companies join? Obviously something grand is expected. Recently, Seiko Epson Corp. (“Epson”) and Royal Philips Electronics (“Philips”) announced the immediate availability of their first joint reference design for a small and cost effective personal projector. What sets the new projectors apart from the traditional models is that the new joint reference design is aimed at emerging segments of personal projection such as gaming, digital cameras and personal multimedia players and powers ultra-compact projectors with stylish designs. For delivering brightness and color-saturation par excellence in a compact design, the companies chose Philips Ujoy (R) lamp-system and the Epson HTPS 3LCD panel to be equipped in the projectors.

“The features of our latest 0.47 inch panel make it perfectly suited for SVGA resolution, providing the benefits of a high aperture ratio, high transmittance and high contrast all at a low cost.” Said Hideaki Iwano and Chief Executive of Epson’s TFT Operations Division. “Therefore this panel is fully consistent with the requirements of a small and cost effective personal projector.” “Going forward and we at Epson are looking forward to creating a new projection market working together with Philips.”
