Parasound announced two new DVD-A compatible DVD players at CES 2002. Both are part of their new high-end Halo product line.
The $5,000 D1 supports DVD-Audio and Video, CD-R and CD-RW, HDCD, DTS, Dolby Digital and MP-3. It is, allegedly, also upgradeable to SACD. Sage/Faroudja DCDi processing is included. It is also claimed to be the first DVD player with a DVI output, but that honour actually goes to Theta’s DaViD II which has a DVI output option.
The D2 ($2,500) loses the D1’s TFT display and some of the D1’s connection flexibility.
