This is the technology of the AiRScouter, a head-mounted display that I suppose we could classify as a portable TV.

I have seen only glasses-mounted displays like the ones from Vuzix, but this AiRScouter from Brother can project images “directly to the retina”. Apparently, you can get a 16-inch screen with 800 x 600 resolution, about one meter away from the eyes.

I know you might be thinking about portable video with this, but Brother seems to want to market this for the industrial sector.
